For Souad Dreyfus, CEO and Owner of Sarasota-based Open Arms Surrogacy and Egg Donation, the road to success was not paved.

Her story is one of achieving firsts by following her heart, facing the unknown and tearing down barriers set to hold her back—both personally and professionally. Her journey began in Morocco, where cultural norms favor antiquated female roles as young brides and domestic workers. In the face of these oppressive societal convictions, Souad forged her own path to become the first in her family to leave Morocco, the first to go to college and the first to start a business.

When she founded Open Arms over 16 years ago, Souad dared to conquer another first. She sought to bring compassion, professionalism and acceptance to an industry that was often misunderstood. What began in Sarasota has since grown to touch thousands of lives across the world, from all backgrounds, orientations and economic situations. Through Souad’s readiness to challenge obstacles, people who struggle with infertility and same-sex couples who want to have a child have been given a voice and an opportunity—and the stigmas associated with these ideas are being erased. “There is power in facing your fear and trusting in the unknown,” she said. “You may fall, but what if what happened after you leap is far more magical?”

Souad’s unconventional trek from early age to entrepreneur is eloquently articulated in the encouragement she gives to egg donors, surrogate mothers and intended parents regarding the journey ahead: “Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely.”
