Elizabeth Dumbaugh, CPP THG Consultants

“Be authentic, think critically, act ethically.”

Presented by THG Consultants June 18, 2019

In Elizabeth Dumbaugh’s life, leadership means ensuring the safety and well-being of those around her. As principal at THG Expert Consultants, and through her experience as a company commander in the military, it’s safe to say she is the embodiment of this definition.

Born and raised in Sarasota, Elizabeth attended Southside Elementary, Pine View School, and graduated from Riverview High School, where she played French horn in the Kiltie Band. After college she went on to Army Officer Candidate School and secured her place at Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). From there, Elizabeth deployed three times to Iraq and Afghanistan, where she led the 710th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company and conducted operations in the Horn of Panjwai, the purported birthplace of the Taliban. She continues to serve as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve.

In her time in the military and as a regular part of her security consulting practice, Elizabeth tackles issues such as workplace violence prevention, sexual harassment and assault prevention, and equal opportunity awareness. She believes that the best outcomes in these areas start when leaders empower members of their organization to make good decisions. When people feel acknowledged as valued members of a group, they are more likely to take ownership of business safety initiatives. Elizabeth is a member of several international organizations for security professionals and is proud to serve on the Professional Development Council of ASIS International, the world’s largest membership organization for security managers.

But for Elizabeth, keeping people safe also extends to her most important role: a foster parent. Since 2015, she and her wife have helped raise and care for children, providing a nurturing and supportive home while the biological parents achieve stability and are ready to be reunified.
