At ShelterBox, we believe shelter is more than just a roof – it’s a home. It’s the foundation for life, for families, for communities. When natural disasters and conflicts displace people from their homes, we can’t wave a magic wand to replace what was lost, but we can have positive impact. We can provide people with the tools to start the process of their own recovery.

We put families first. The commitment of our supporters enables us to provide emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by conflict and natural disaster. Our signature ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits contain the tools to transform lives and rebuild communities.

ShelterBox aid is tailored to each disaster and typically includes tented shelter, blankets and groundsheets, solar lights, cooking utensils, water purification equipment, a tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity packs. See the different types of aid we provide by visiting www.ShelterBoxUSA.org/aid.

Sometimes specific equipment is sent in bulk because essential needs of disaster survivors can vary based on the type and scale of the crisis. This maximizes donor dollars, ensuring that what is sent is actually needed and culturally appropriate.

ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members are civilian volunteers who deploy to the front lines of disaster situations and hand-deliver aid to the communities that need it most.

Notable ShelterBox responses include: 2017 Caribbean response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria •  2016 Fiji Typhoon Winstone • 2012-present Syrian Refugee Crisis, 2015 Nepal earthquakes, 2013 Philippines Typhoon Haiyan, 2011 Japan earthquake & tsunami, and 2010 Haiti earthquake. ShelterBox has deployed in the United States following Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, and the tornadoes in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The work of ShelterBox is made possible through the ongoing contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.
