As Hurricane Ian moved away from Sarasota-Manatee late last night, local residents weren't sure what to expect when they opened their eyes this morning.

The storm, which made landfall near Cayo Costa, Florida, as one of the strongest hurricanes ever to hit the U.S., devastated Fort Myers and Sanibel, and significant damage has been reported in Venice in North Port. Around downtown Sarasota—specifically in the Shade Avenue and Ringling Boulevard area, and around U.S. 301 and Fruitville Road—there were crumpled pool cages, downed fences, trees and branches and debris.

Here's a look at the area; we'll continue sharing photos as we get them.
