Sarasota Modern Residence

This client wanted a 2,000-square-foot modern home that embraced the spirit of the Sarasota School. The home has a strong relationship to the outdoor environment, with many walls of glass, a terraced entry garden, entry court, pool area and ceilings lifted above clerestories.

Siesta Key Duplex

Perched along a bustling road that leads to historic Siesta Key Village, the duplex at 505 Beach Road is a private retreat that captures expansive views of the Gulf of Mexico. Designed vertically, each unit has a private entry, garage, garden and shared swimming pool. The second level incorporates a kitchen, living room, dining room and laundry room; the third level houses the master bedroom, master bath, and additional bedroom/study; and the fourth level includes the family room and a second master bedroom/mother-in-law suite. The building is light, airy and carries its own load effortlessly.

Sarasota High School

The restoration of Paul Rudolph's historic Sarasota High School involved extensive detailed work on the intricate facade, with a large effort to preserve the edge of roof details. The open-air breezeways were preserved and entryway stairs reconstructed; there is a unique but flowing balance between the building's historic aspects and the technology-rich educational spaces therein.

Venezia Park Historic District - Niwa Project

The Niwa project is located in the heart of Venice's Venezia Park Historic District, designed by renowned planner John Nolen. The owners decided to rehabilitate the home and enlarge the floor plan to include a master suite, art studio/guest room, formal guest room, kitchen, living areas, home office, enlarged garage/sotrage facility, enclosed outdoor shower and screened living porch.

Sarasota National Cemetery

This 48,000-square-foot outdoor assembly area combines art, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering and technology to create a functional, meaningful space for community celebrations and solitary reflections. This "first of its kind" project is intended to serve as a partnership model for communities near the nation's 131 other national cemeteries.

Sarasota has a longtime love affair with great architecture, from John and Mable Ringling’s 1920s Venetian-style mansion, Ca d Z’an, to the clean-lined beach homes designed in the 1950s and ’60s by Paul Rudolph and other “Sarasota School” architects, as they came to be known. In recognition of that tradition, we’re once again collaborating with the AIA Florida Gulf Coast chapter on its biennial design awards. Through June 2, ou can vote for your favorite project here; the winner will be recognized with a People's Choice Award a the AIA celebration on June 16.
