The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation has announced that John Brothers will become Barancik Foundation’s next president and CEO.
Brothers succeeds outgoing president and CEO Teri Hansen, who announced her retirement earlier this year, after 13 years helming the foundation. He most recently served as president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation and T. Rowe Price Charitable, the philanthropic arms of the Baltimore-based global investment management firm. In those roles, he oversaw more than $750 million in combined assets and over $150 million in annual giving, working with a global network of grantees, donors, and community partners while also developing innovative initiatives at the local community level.
The Barancik Foundation was founded in April 2014 by Chicago natives Charles and Margery Barancik. She was an educator and he had a knack for buying and developing companies in industries from bakeries to fire prevention and office furniture. Known throughout the community as "Chuck" and "Margie," Chuck told us in 2018 that family and philanthropy were what he cherished most. The couple passed away in December 2019 after a car crash on Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key. The foundation's current endowment is nearly $800 million.
“Our board is confident that John will lead us to new levels of community impact as Barancik Foundation’s next chief executive,” Rebecca Harris Barancik, board chair of Barancik Foundation, said in a statement. “He has the vision to build on Teri’s incredible foundational work as we continue to realize Chuck and Margie’s belief that philanthropy can make a meaningful difference in the lives of all people.”
Brothers earned his doctorate in law and policy from Northeastern University, MBA from American Public University, master of public administration from New York University, and bachelor’s degree from University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
“I’m excited to turn the reins over to John, whose deep professional experience, coupled with his values of humility, courage, and trust, will position him perfectly to lead Barancik Foundation onward and upward,” Hansen said in a statement “It was an honor helping Chuck and Margie create their lasting legacy in our community, and I am grateful to the board and staff for their unwavering support of that legacy.”
Brothers' appointment is effective Dec. 1, 2025.
