Selby Foundation Awards $648,376 in Capital Grants to Local Nonprofits

Plus, philanthropist Hugh Culverhouse Jr. donates $200,000 to Church of the Redeemer, and more.

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation recently approved capital grants totaling $648,376 for 20 nonprofit organizations serving Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties.

At its 2025 Champions for Children gala,  the Safe Children Coalition raised more than $260,000 to support its critical work protecting children and strengthening families in Florida’s Circuit 12.

Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota has received a $200,000 challenge donation from parishioner, developer, attorney and philanthropist Hugh Culverhouse Jr., intended to help provide financial relief for people in Sarasota who are facing economic hardship.

Habitat for Humanity Sarasota recently received a $125,000 charitable gift from Publix Super Markets Charities to support its mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities in Sarasota.

The Glenridge will distribute 30 scholarships of $4,000 each, a total of $120,000,  to employees as part of its Nesbit Scholarship Awards.

All Faiths Food Bank recently received a number of grants, totaling $107,000, to support a variety of its programs. The funders are Bank of America Client Foundation ($40,000); Regmark Foundation ($30,000); Community Foundation of Sarasota County ($15,000); First Horizon Foundation ($10,000); Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation ($5,000); Venice Golf and Country Club Foundation ($5,000); and the Wawa Foundation, ($2,000).

The Oaks Women’s Club Scholarship Committee recently announced that 16 young women receiving diplomas from Sarasota County area high schools have been awarded $5,000 scholarships to assist them in their college journeys.  

The Florida Center for Early Childhood has received two grants totaling $49,326 from the United Way of Charlotte County. The funds will support early intervention services through The Florida Center’s Healthy Families program and early childhood therapy services. 

The Women’s Resource Center has been awarded a $35,000 grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation to enhance mental health and wellness services for women in Manatee County. 

The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, in partnership with Girls Inc. and Young Chefs Academy of Sarasota, awarded 10 one-year scholarships valued at $23,000 to Girls Inc. students to attend culinary programs at Young Chefs Academy.

Florida Studio Theatre recently received a $10,000 charitable gift from the Manatee Community Foundation to support its "Write a Play" program during the 2024–2025 season.
