New Hires, Promotions and Retirements

The William  G. and Marie Selby Foundation has announced that its president and CEO, Carol Butera, will retire effective next spring. Butera joined the foundation in July 2017 as its executive director and was later promoted to president and CEO. Prior to joining the foundation, she served as vice-president of development at Children First and at the former Sarasota YMCA for a decade prior to that. 

The Hermitage Artist Retreat recently announced its 2022-2023 Curatorial Council, comprised of national arts leaders in the fields of theater, music, visual art, literature, and arts education. The newest additions to the council include award-winning visual and multimedia artist Sanford Biggers, New York Times bestselling author Cathy Park Hong, Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Rajiv Joseph, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Du Yun. Biggers and Yun are also both Hermitage alumni.

Premier Sotheby’s International Realty has announced the promotion of Shelley Whiteside to senior regional marketing director of the Sarasota region. In this expanded role, Whiteside will lead the development and execution of regional marketing plans, media buying and corporate training for global advisors in the Lakewood Ranch, Longboat Key, Sarasota and Venice Beach office locations. She joined the brokerage in 2016.

The Library Foundation for Sarasota County has elected new officers to its board of directors. Effective July 1, Sarah Karon will serve as board president. Ilene Denton, retired senior editor at Sarasota Magazine, will serve as vice-president. The Observer's Kat Hughes will serve as treasurer, and Hank Tafaro, retired chairman and CEO of the Hanleigh Companies, will serve as secretary.

Safe Children Coalition has hired April Ranceful as its new vice-president of child welfare. In this role, she will provide leadership, supervision and management to the community-based care organizations in Florida's Circuit 12, which encompasses Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties.

Moves, Openings and Expansions

Williams Parker has signed a lease for a new office location in Lakewood Ranch. Part of the Waterside Place mixed-use development, the firm’s new, expanded office will enable its lawyers and professionals to better serve the needs of clients located in Lakewood Ranch. The Lakewood Ranch office will be located at 7500 Island Cove Terrace. Based on the current construction timeline, the move to the space is expected to occur in spring 2023.

Venice-based PGT Innovations has opened its flagship NewSouth Window Solutions showroom in Atlanta with a donation of more than $180,000 in windows and sliding glass doors to the Gwinnett/Walton Habitat for Humanity. The showroom is NewSouth’s first in Georgia and features NewSouth window and door products, including single hung, double hung, horizontal slider and picture windows, as well as sliding glass patio doors and entry doors.

G&A Partners, a national professional employer organization (PEO) and human resources outsourcing (HRO) provider, has announced its expansion to Sarasota with the appointment of Josh McIntosh to the role of vice-president of sales for the Florida and mid-Atlantic region.

Breeze Airways will begin service from Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) to Westchester County Airport (HPN) on November 5, 2022. 

Mariner Wealth Advisors has expanded in Southwest Florida by opening a new location in Naples and adding Jason Baum as a senior wealth advisor. The Naples location adds to the firm’s presence throughout Florida with five established offices in Sarasota, Orlando, West Palm, Coral Gables/Miami and Miramar Beach (Destin).

All Star Children's Foundation founder Graci McGillicuddy was recently honored as one of the “100 Women to Know” by The KNOW Women, a global women’s group.

The Child Protection Center, Inc. has named Michael Klauber of Michael’s on East its Community Partner of the Year.

Elise Ramer, senior director of public relations for Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, was named an honoree in PR News' 2022 "Top Women in PR Awards." Ramer was recognized in the "Industry Innovators" category.

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) was recently awarded the 2022 Commercial Service Airport of the Year Award by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The award recognizes outstanding achievements in airport aesthetics, safety, and airport management in the State of Florida.
