In May 2022, 332,431 passengers traveled through Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)—an increase of 43,880 passengers over May 2021. Passengers traveling through the airport so far in 2022 total 1,803,944, compared to 1,146,782 year-to-date for 2021, an increase of 57 percent.
“We continue to see growth as we come into our summer months at SRQ," Rick Piccolo, SRQ's president and CEO said in a press release last week. "However, rising fuel prices and pilot and personnel shortages with the airlines nationwide continue, so some schedule cutbacks are expected." Piccolo recommends that passengers planning trips this summer book travel early to ensure they get to their desired destinations.
SRQ experienced its busiest year in history in 2021. This year, plans include breaking ground on a new ground transportation facility; improved and expanded concessions; and a new ground-level terminal that will provide at least five additional gates for aircraft arrivals and departures.
