During the month of April, 386,013 passengers traveled through Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, a 31 percent increase over passengers served in April 2021. Passengers traveling through the airport year-to-date totaled 1,471,513 compared to 858,231 year-to-date for 2021, an increase of 71.5 percent.

Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of the airport, added that as unprecedented growth at the airport continues, pilot shortages and rising fuel prices will likely impact SRQ. "People need to plan their travel early, while seat inventory and discount pricing are still available," he said in a release.

SRQ is currently served by 11 airlines with nonstop service to 53 destinations and experienced its busiest year in history in 2021. In 2022, plans include breaking ground on a new ground transportation facility; improved and expanded concessions; and a new ground-level terminal which will provide at least five additional gates for aircraft arrivals and departures.
