The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is enhancing security protocol with the installation of new touch-free scanners from Evolv Technology.

Evolv Technology is a leader in security screening and has secured some of the world’s most iconic venues and businesses. The Evolv system is touch-free and uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence. The technology enables guests to walk through without having to remove items from their pockets or bags.

Sarasota City Commissioners approved spending for the scanners to be installed in December. The expenditure has been paid with grant money received by the hall.  The Executive director Mary Bensel says she believes the added security will give patrons greater peace of mind.

The walk-through scanners have been installed in both the main lobby and bayside entrances to the hall; their first use was Dec. 31 for the Jefferson Starship performance.
