In a meeting on Tuesday, the Sarasota County School Board unanimously named Dr. Brennan Asplen the new superintendent of the school district. Asplen replaces Todd Bowden, who stepped down last year following an investigation into how he handled sexual abuse complaints from an employee. Asplen was also a finalist for the Sarasota County superintendent position in 2016.
Prior to accepting the Sarasota position, he was deputy superintendent in charge of academic and student services for St. Johns County Schools and president of the Florida Association of School Administrators. He was also a principal at both middle and high schools. The Sarasota County School Board is expected to finalize Asplen's contract on July 23.
