A team of researchers at Florida International University have estimated that Hurricane Irma's winds alone caused $19.4 billion in damages in Florida, a total that doesn't cover losses from floods. The team also estimates that insurance companies will pay $6.3 billion of that total, leaving homeowners to pay for the bulk of the damage. According to the team, the counties that saw the highest wind damages were Lee County and Collier County.
