Tourist Development Tax collections increased to almost $20 million in fiscal year 2016, a 4.7 percent increase over 2015, according to numbers released by Visit Sarasota County Thursday. More than 1.1 million visitors stayed in paid lodging in 2016, a 1.4 percent increase; direct expenditures and economic impact increased 3.4 percent from the previous year.
