The Sarasota City Commission voted on Tuesday to move forward with a paid parking plan proposed by city staffers. The plan calls for 458 metered parking spaces on Main Street, between Gulfstream Avenue and School Avenue; on South Palm Avenue, from Cocoanut Avenue to Ringling Boulevard; and on Ringling Boulevard, between School Avenue and Washington Boulevard. According to the plan, downtown visitors would be required to pay $1 per hour from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The commission voted in favor of the measure 4-1, with Vice-Mayor Shelli Freeland Eddie the lone no vote.
