Bradenton's Motorworks Brewing won a gold and silver award at the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship, while Sarasota's JDub's Brewing Company took home a gold award. Motorworks won gold in the best chili beer category with its Datil brew, and won silver in the best smoked beer category with its Crotch Rauchet. JDub's won gold in the best German kolsh category with its Poolside brew. Competitors from around the country submitted almost 5,000 different beers for the competition.
