Only in Sarasota: Paul Rudolph's Cocoon House
This month's "Only in Sarasota" illustration is Paul Rudolph's iconic Cocoon House.
When illustrator John Pirman moved to Sarasota, he first lived on Siesta Key. Soon after he arrived, he set off on his bicycle in search of architect Paul Rudolph’s legendary Cocoon House. “There it was, tucked away on a one-lane road next to Bayou Louise—both simple in design and sculptural at the same time,” he says. “It represents a 1950s version of Sarasota’s sense of freedom and outdoor living, which still holds true today.”
