Fast Track Close-Up

Angela Massaro-Fain of Grapevine Communications was named 2013 Businesswoman of the Year in the Business Services category, and Grapevine was named one of the Top 25 Ad Agencies in Southwest Florida by Tampa Bay Business Journal.

To what do you attribute your award?

“I have the best team, and they make me look good.”

What was your education?

“I was fortunate enough to work full time as an art director at a very young age. At the same time, I went four nights a week and Saturdays for four and a half years to get my bachelor’s.”

Your mentor?

“My mother, who said, ‘You’re never going to make a living out of picking colors, so make a business out of it’.”

You run the company with your husband. How does that work?

“We settled into the things we do best: John is our strategist marketer, and oversees HR and finances. I oversee prices and sales. I’m in charge of making money, and he’s in charge of not spending it. We have one rule: When we go home, we do not talk about work.”

Advice for women in business?

“Be confident in yourself. And don’t use the fact that you’re a women versus a man to get your way.” –Interview by Taylor Meredith
