Susan BurnsWhen we redesigned Biz(941) last fall (an effort, we’re proud to say, that won a silver “Best Redesign” this year from the Florida Magazine Association), we spent a lot of time thinking about our aims for the magazine and our readership. We distilled all of our objectives into this one clear and simple idea: Biz(941) exists to help you and your business achieve success—to “prosper in paradise” we called it, since we happen to live and work in such an extraordinary place.

We hope this Make More Money issue will help you do exactly that with real-life ideas and examples from other local businesspeople who have managed to survive—and succeed—despite tough times and an uncertain future in this new normal of post-recession America and election-year politics.

You’ll also find some solid advice from career coaches. In particular, two comments resonated: When interviewing for a job, remember to talk about what you can do for an employer, not what an employer can do for you (I’m sending this to some recent college grads in my family); and also remember to take time out occasionally and revisit your values, especially if you’re unhappy with your job. There is something better waiting for those who seize it.
