Sarasota just got the radio station it’s long deserved, says Jennifer Berges Meyer, associate director of development for Tampa’s WUSF Public Media (and WUSF’s sole Sarasota employee). In September, WUSF switched to all news on 89.7 and introduced WSMR 89.1, an all-classical station based in Sarasota. Meyer, 29, says 30 percent of WUSF listeners live in Sarasota, so it was a natural to move here. Next step: a state-of-the-art studio, where musicians can perform live on air. She’s already rallied support for that from groups like the Sarasota Opera and the Sarasota Orchestra (where her husband, Dirk Meyer, happens to be the assistant conductor).
