The Town of Longboat Key announced this week that it has closed all public beach access parking lots, the Quick Point and Overlook parking accesses, and the public restrooms at Bayfront and Joan M. Durant parks. Longboat Key officials say the closures are to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Cases have been shattering records statewide and locally, and Holmes Beach, Anna Maria and the city of Sarasota issued ordinances declaring face masks mandatory in public spaces. Longboat Key plans to discuss its own mandatory mask ordinance at a special meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
