Best of Sarasota 2017: Best New Shops & Services
Best New Bike Shop
“A bike shop should be fun” is the motto at retail and repair shop Sarasota POPCycles. It’s OK if you don’t even know what kind of bike you want; this service-driven space welcomes all comers. Tip: Here’s where to rent your wheels for the Legacy Trail, which is just two miles away.
Best New Thrill
Pressure’s on: You’re trapped in a tea party, and those stuffed animals and toy teacups conceal clues to riddles you and your friends need to solve in order to free yourself before time runs out. That’s the premise behind Sarasota’s Escape Countdown, part of the global “escape room” interactive-thriller phenomenon. Pick from themed rooms like “Mad Hatter” or “Jail Break,” then the clock starts ticking…
Best New Street Market
Created by Ashley Rogers, who owns Canned Ham Vintage, the Rosemary District Indie Market features a bevy of vendors, from vintage retailers to jewelry-makers to woodworkers. The monthly market, which sets up in front of Canned Ham Vintage, has quickly become a can’t-miss, third-Saturday-of-the-month tradition, and there’s food and live entertainment, too.
Best New Yoga Studio
Claudia Baeza opened her Pineapple Yoga Studio and boutique with an 80/20 system: Eighty percent of the goods in the boutique are from Florida businesses (like Sarasota’s Kombucha 221 BC or Naples’ Hip Buddha jewelry), and the other 20 percent come from companies that make sustainable goods or promote wellness. And her classes foster a similar environment of goodwill and compassion.
