Gulf Gate will soon welcome a new addition to the neighborhood. Kolucan Bar & Grill, owned by Gino Calleja of Reyna's Taqueria and his business partner Jose Rojas, will open on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The restaurant will feature elevated Mexican cuisine and promises to bring a fresh perspective to the local culinary scene.

In a press release, Calleja, who grew up in San Lucas Colucán, Mexico, said, "Every time I visit home, I have to make the stop at San Lucas Colucán. The sound of 'Kolucan' has always resonated with me, reminding me of my family and my roots, which will forever be an integral part of who I am."

"Gino and I share a strong love for our native Mexican roots, and I admire his experience and success in the restaurant business," said Rojas. "Together, we are proud to introduce modern-day authentic Mexican cuisine to Sarasota."
