The owners of Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant call the restaurant's food "American fusion," but if the food were a person it might be described as a well-traveled resident of Napa Valley who had a love affair in Italy and a layover in Southeast Asia and settled down in Chicago, near a bodega.
The menu at the restaurant, which opens in Sarasota on Monday, June 28, features hand-rolled flour gnocchi made by a Chicago family, Asian pork belly in a barbecue sauce, shrimp in a tequila lime butter and barramundi in a Thai lemongrass sauce.
“No matter who you are, you'll find something on the menu you’ll love,” says general manager Pedro Torres. Gluten-free and vegan dishes are also available, plus a kid’s menu.
And if food gets everyone to the table, wine keeps them there. The national chain heads the largest wine club in the country, with almost 500,000 members who enjoy monthly tastings and special dinners with off-the-menu dishes and wine pairings. Depending on the package, members receive one or two bottles of wine a month that are stored on-site for pickup or to enjoy with while dining in. Membership also includes access to California wine tours and an annual trip to a wine country destination.
“The monthly wine dinners become a community night where the manager and chef joins in too,” says culinary training manager C.J. LeFevre.
The new Sarasota location, just east of I-75, seats roughly 200 and has a covered outdoor patio area, lush teal velvet booths and casual seating at the full bar. There's also a gift shop featuring chocolate truffles, glassware and decanters and a private tasting room.
A national chain with almost 50 locations in 10 states, Cooper’s Hawk started in 2005. The Sarasota location will be the company’s 12th in Florida.
