Popi Ameres, the co-owner of Popi's Place, which has five locations in the area, says that usually she only gets to prepare her favorite Greek dishes when she's cooking for family gatherings or for Sarasota's annual Saint Barbara Greek Festival. That changes on Sunday, Nov. 8, when the Popi's location at 3911 U.S. 301, Ellenton, will host its first Greek Night, a family-style dinner event that will highlight Ameres' Greek cuisine.

While the menu at Popi's features some Greek items, you're more likely to find American items like country fried steak and chicken and waffles. Greek Night will feature meze platters with some of Greece's popular appetizers, plus Greek salads, moussaka, pastitsio, roasted lamb, sides, desserts and more.

Seatings for the special dinner, which costs $27.99 per person, will take place at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tables will be set six feet apart, and the food will be served family-style. Diners are strongly encouraged to wear masks while not seated.

"We hope the community will embrace this event so we can continue Greek Night on a monthly basis," said Ameres, according to a press release.
