One week after launching a face mask and shield effort in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Suncoast Science Center/Faulhaber Fab Lab (SSC) has received more than 5,000 mask and shield requests from assisted living facilities and other non-primary healthcare facilities. To help support the project and inspire other philanthropists to step forward, the Floyd C. Johnson and Flo Singer Johnson Foundation has donated $15,000, SSC announced this week. In addition to funding, more than 120 volunteers have rallied to support the project, including sewing masks, assisting with face shield assembly, delivering supplies and helping spread the word. Monetary donations can be made by clicking here; supply donations of fabric, sewing elastic and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic sheets can be dropped off in the donation bin outside SSC at 4452 S. Beneva Road.
