The swirling forms on his canvases are related not only to hurricane movement but, he says, “to what lies beneath the ocean and ourselves—the flow of community, the surge of life.”

Tim Jaeger is well-known around town, both as director of galleries and exhibitions at Ringling College and in his newer role as co-owner and director of 502 Gallery on Pineapple Avenue. He’s also a painter who works steadily in his home studio. His latest series, “A Fresh Wave,” was begun during Hurricane Milton in fall 2024, with the swirling forms on his canvases related not only to hurricane movement but, he says, “to what lies beneath the ocean and ourselves—the flow of community, the surge of life.”

Normally, Jaeger sells individual pieces almost as fast as he finishes them, but he’s held on to these new ones for his first solo show in nearly 10 years, opening Jan. 31 to run through Feb. 21 at 502. When viewers see all the canvases in one room, he says, “It can be transformative. They get the same feeling I do when I’m painting.”
