Visitors enter Ki Woon Huh’s DeSoto Acres home through a gallery filled with his fantastical, colorful pottery—everything from delicate teacups to towering porcelain sculptures. A Sarasota resident since 2000, Huh emigrated from Korea, where he was awarded the title of National Treasure, and found the artistic expression he needed in America. Each piece he creates, he says, is “inspired by nature’s curves,” and all are hand-thrown and carved into whimsical sea creatures and dreamlike shapes, then hand-painted with extraordinary artistry. In his backyard studio, Huh also works one-on-one with students of all levels, where, he says, creation is “meditation.”

Ki Woon Huh hosts an annual pottery sale. This year’s is Dec. 12-14 at 5015 Mink Road, Sarasota
