Project Pride SRQ is creating a one-of-kind art installation at the five-corner intersection at Cocoanut Avenue and Second Street in downtown Sarasota, featuring a custom rainbow street mural representing the LGBTQ+, Black, brown and transgender communities. The mural will be painted by Detroit-based artist Joey Salmon, known for his work with clients like Microsoft, critically acclaimed restaurants and musical acts. He is the creator of one of the worldโ€™s largest rainbow street murals, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.ย

The mission of Project Pride is to bring together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and their friends, allies and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of the LGBTQ+ community. The mural is being installed this week; former governor and current Rep. Charlie Crist, pictured above, made an appearance to help paint it. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled forย 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 11.
