Two dozen or so debs wearing white, their male escorts all gussied up in formal wear, and proud papas and mamas beaming as the first notes of the traditional waltz were struck—familiar scenes from the 34th annual Debutante Ball, held at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium. But behind the smiles and pretty dresses lay a year of lessons and preparation, all paying off with funds raised from the evening for the youth programs of the Sarasota Orchestra.
