The Climate Adaption Center (CAC), based in Sarasota, is hosting its second Florida Climate Forecast Conference Nov. 19, 2021 in the Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus. This day-long, in-person event will focus on Florida’s West Coast and will explore what the climate will look like in 2030, 2040 and 2050.  The conference will present first-ever forecasts of this kind and will also examine how the public, private and academic sectors can prepare for the future.

Experts will address topics such as how often we can expect hurricanes and how dangerous they will become, the latest information on sea level rise, whether red tide is the new normal as well as a changing climate’s impact on human health, financial risk and opportunity. Speakers will also discuss how government, private and academic sectors can take action to minimize the worst impacts of climate warming.

Speakers for the day include Rick Newman, senior columnist, Yahoo Finance; Bob Bunting, CEO, Climate Adaptation Center; Dr. Matt Burgess, Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, University of Colorado; Chris Castro, director of Sustainability and Resilience, City of Orlando; David Kotok, Cumberland Advisors and Dr. Stuart Waterman of the Climate Adaptation Center.

The keynote address, “Clean Electrification, Getting to Net-Zero and Pitfalls” will be delivered by Ellen Hughes-Cromwick, senior resident fellow for the Climate and Energy Program, Third Way, and former chief economist for both the U.S. Department of Commerce and Ford Motor Company.

The event is open to the public.
