Sarasota County commissioners voted Wednesday to re-open county beaches with restrictions: group activities will not be allowed, and parking lots will stay closed to prevent people from bringing chairs, blankets and another accessories onto the beaches. Manatee County beaches will remain closed, as will Lido Beach, which is under the jurisdiction of the City of Sarasota.

The city said it will also review the commission's actions; however, a public health emergency remains in effect and citizens are "very strongly" urged to acquire and wear protective masks when leaving home to conduct essential activities. Social gatherings of more than 10 people are also prohibited on public and private property in city limits, and Florida citizens are to remain in their homes—except to conduct essential activities, like doctors appointments or going to the grocery store—under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Safer at Home” executive order, in effect through April 30.
