Dogs barking at vehicles may make more sense now—especially if it's an ice cream truck loaded with treats made just for them.

That’s right: JB’s Doggie Delight is an ice cream truck loaded with cookies and cream, peanut butter, maple-bacon and blueberry ice cream flavors, playing doggie hit faves such as “Who Let the Dogs Out?” and “You Ain’t Nothin' but a Hound Dog.” 

Founder Jackie Brady, who owns JB's Indoor Dog Park in Norwell, Mass., came up with the concept while visiting her son on Siesta Key, where she plans to relocate.

With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, Brady closed her indoor dog park for six months, giving Brady and her husband Kevin time to visit our area. While they were relaxing at a dog-friendly restaurant with a cold beer on a hot day, she thought, "The dogs need something, too."

"I wanted them to have something that would take longer to eat," she says. "I said to my husband, 'If an ice cream truck came around it'd be so good.'" 

Kevin said it was the craziest idea he'd ever heard of—but now the couple has two dog ice cream trucks in Norwell and one in Sarasota.

The most popular flavors? Peanut butter and blueberry.

Can the humans have a cup, too? Absolutely. 

The ice creams are homemade with fresh fruit and local honey with no preservatives. "People have even bought it for themselves," Brady says, but they usually don't go for the optional dog bone crumble or crushed bacon topping. The Frosty Cups are $3 each, four for $10 and eight for $20.

At first, she thought she'd drive the truck around dog parks and dog-friendly neighborhoods, but for the most part, she does dog birthday parties, sets tails wagging at farmers' markets and visits residential community socials. She also does deliveries.

It'd be easy to assume JB Indoor Dog Park is named after Brady, but it's actually to commemorate the Bradys' dog Java, a 16-year-old brown lab that passed away three years ago, and Baily, a white Goldendoodle who she credits with starting JB's Indoor Dog Park. 

"When I got Baily, she was a puppy and I just couldn't keep her clean from playing outside, or from putting stuff in her mouth," she recalls. "The [Massachusetts] weather kept us from getting out enough too." The indoor park is climate-controlled and dogs have to be socialized and have proof of vaccination, so it's a safe play date for all.

For now, Brady still runs her indoor dog park business in Norwell, but plans to open one here when she and her husband make their permanent move to Siesta Key. For now, JB's Doggie Delights truck will spread the name—and the love of a cool treat for canines on a hot day.
