The Ear Research Foundation was established in 1979 in Sarasota, Florida, by president and founder Dr. Herbert Silverstein. The Foundation was created out of Dr. Silverstein’s desire to conduct research and development, and to contribute to medical education in a private setting in the field of otology/neurotology. The Ear Research Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing Research into finding new better treatments for hearing loss, curing vertigo and balance disorders; Education of physicians and the public in latest technology; and Community Care for those in need.

1979: The Ear Research Foundation was founded in Sarasota by Dr. Herbert Silverstein to discover new diagnostic technologies and treatments for ear care, balance disorders and tinnitus.

1983: Fellows Program is established as a one-year interactive clinical and surgical post-residency program for which 45 physicians have participated since its inception. Fellows remain connected leaders practicing otology and neurotology all across the United States.

2012: "Help Us Hear Campaign is unveiled” with a mission to educate the public on various hearing and balance disorder treatment options for disorders and to provide funds for hearing aids and implants for those who cannot afford them. 

2019: Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Ear Research Foundation continues to be a leader in innovative research. Dr. Silverstein’s most recent accomplishment is the pioneering of a minimally invasive procedure that dampens loud sounds for people with severe hyperacusis (noise intolerance).
