Researchers Reduce Number of Predicted Atlantic Hurricanes
Researchers at Colorado State University are reducing the number of Atlantic hurricanes they are predicting for this year from seven to four.
Researchers at Colorado State University are downgrading their forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season, reducing the number of hurricanes they are predicting for this year from seven to four. The researchers estimate a 22 percent chance of a major hurricane (category 3, 4 or 5) striking the East Coast of the U.S., which includes the Florida peninsula. The risk of a major hurricane tracking into the Caribbean was placed at 31 percent. Researchers cited a "colder than normal tropical Atlantic" and a "weak El Niño" as factors in their revised predictions.
