Life expectancy for Americans dropped from 78.9 years in 2014 to 78.8 in 2015, according to new numbers released by the National Center for Health Statistics. The decrease occurred "largely because of increases in mortality from heart disease, chronic lower respiratory diseases, unintentional injuries, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, kidney disease and suicide," according to a summary of the Center's findings. The decline is the first drop recorded since 1993, according to The New York Times.
