The Ringling College of Art and Design spent $1.6 million to purchase the 9,800-square-foot Visionworks building at 891 S. Tamiami Trail, just north of the original Sarasota High School collegiate Gothic building, which is currently being converted into the Sarasota Museum of Art. Christine Meeker Lange, a college spokesperson, says Ringling is undecided what it will do with the space, but the proximity to the museum makes it a desirable property. Visionworks will continue to operate there for at least the next year.

A Casey Key waterfront estate sold last Friday, Aug. 29 for $6.2 million. The Gulf-to-bay property at 2016 Casey Key Road was listed by Deborah Beacham of the Longboat Key South office of Michael Saunders & Company; and sold by Mark McCann and Camille Schwabe, with the firm’s Siesta Key office. The sale, which was the largest on Casey Key in over three years, is viewed as further evidence of the re-energized market for luxury properties on the barrier island.
