The Ringling College of Art and Design spent $1.6 million to purchase the 9,800-square-foot Visionworks building at 891 S. Tamiami Trail, just north of the original Sarasota High School collegiate Gothic building, which is currently being converted into the Sarasota Museum of Art. Christine Meeker Lange, a college spokesperson, says Ringling is undecided what it will do with the space, but the proximity to the museum makes it a desirable property. Visionworks will continue to operate there for at least the next year.

 


 

A Casey Key waterfront estate sold last Friday, Aug. 29 for $6.2 million. The Gulf-to-bay property at 2016 Casey Key Road was listed by Deborah Beacham of the Longboat Key South office of Michael Saunders & Company; and sold by Mark McCann and Camille Schwabe, with the firm’s Siesta Key office. The sale, which was the largest on Casey Key in over three years, is viewed as further evidence of the re-energized market for luxury properties on the barrier island.

 


 

The 14,725-square-foot Pompano Plaza, at 3048 17th St. in Sarasota, sold for $1.8 million. Rico Boeras of Sarasota Commercial Realty represented the seller, John M. Saba Jr. Trust; David McComas of European Equities represented the buyer, Sarasota Investments One LLC.

 


 

Stearns Bank has sold 35 acres of vacant industrial land at 5700 Sawgrass Road in Sarasota to JW4 Captial LLC for $2.1 million.

 


 

JC Group USA Inc. has purchased the nearly 6,000-square-foot Firestone car repair shop at 2121 Stickney Point Road in Sarasota from Sallin Properties US Inc. for $1.05 million.

 


 

A Harvey Vengroff company sold a 16-unit apartment complex at 5233 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota to Ascension Properties Inc. for $920,000.
