40th Sarasota Jazz Festival Kicks Off
March 8-14
A free Jazz in the Park concert with three bands at Phillippi Estate Park Sunday afternoon kicks off the 40th annual Sarasota Jazz Festival—seven days of nonstop musical joy, including a trolley pub crawl Wednesday evening, a screening of a jazz-related documentary, and a full day of music by eight bands on four stages, as well as The Manhattan Transfer headlining mainstage concerts at the Municipal Auditorium next weekend. Sarasota Orchestra Pops: "My Favorite Things"

Bright young Broadway actress Maria Wirries (she’s been touring in the national tour of Dear Evan Hansen) got her singing start in Sarasota, and she returns home this weekend to headlin the next Sarasota Orchestra pops concerts. Andrew Lane conducts the orchestra in songs from The Sound of Music, Mamma Mia!, Funny Girl and more. Three performances at the Van Wezel.
