The organization delivers hot meals daily to more than 1,000 local homebound seniors, veterans, children and families every day.
The funds will be used to meet the rising local demand for food and resources due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are seeing a huge increase in needs," says Amy Towery, the vice president of development at Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee.
Meals on Wheels of Sarasota recently added Debra Douglas, Ralph Hall and Jim Hastings to its board and named Jody Maxwell treasurer.
Founded in 1971, the nonprofit serves roughly 160,000 meals a year to homebound seniors, veterans and the mentally and physically handicapped.
The Meals on Wheels of Sarasota board of directors recently elected two new members: Adria Maria Jensen and David Harrold.
