Off the Page Returns to Sarasota County

A story rarely stays on the page. It travels from writer to reader, sparking a conversation that can sometimes inspire others to tell a story of their own.
That spirit drives Off the Page, Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources’ monthlong literary celebration. Returning Nov. 1 for its fourth year, the free event brings bestselling authors, writing workshops, book signings and family activities to library locations across Sarasota County.

Off the Page began with a goal of connecting literature and the arts. Since then, the community has helped it grow. More than 3,200 people participated last year, a 45 percent increase in attendance. That same year the event was nationally recognized with a feature in Library Journal. Over the years, audiences have met acclaimed writers including Chris Bohjalian, Amor Towles and Amy Tan.
This November, Selby Library will open for a special Sunday kickoff. Publishing Day and Local Author Fair takes place on Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Publishing professionals, established authors and creative writing experts will share advice with people ready to take their own work further. Visitors can also shop the all-day author fair.
