Your support during the Giving Challenge helps animals across our community get the care, safety, and second chances they deserve.

Gideon arrives at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, where his second chance begins.

Every day, animals in our community get a second chance, and it starts with people who choose to help.

At the Humane Society of Sarasota County, that help shows up in many ways. It might look like stepping in for a dog who has run out of options or giving a fragile kitten the chance to survive and thrive. No matter the situation, one thing remains. When our community steps up, lives are changed.

On his way to a foster home after surgery, Gideon begins his recovery and a new chapter.

Take Gideon, for example. He’s a young dog with a bright future. After being pulled from another shelter with no other options, Gideon required major knee surgery to walk comfortably again. Like an ACL tear in humans, his injury made it painful to move. With specialized care, dogs like Gideon can heal, strengthen, and go on to live very full, happy lives. Without that care, his future would have looked very different.

Recovering after surgery, Pi begins his healing with the care and support that made his second chance possible.

Then there’s Pi, a tiny kitten whose story shows why prevention matters. He came to us through a TNVR (Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return) effort with an injured leg that required amputation. Because he couldn’t safely return to his colony, our team continued his care. After recovery, he was adopted within hours of becoming available.

Stories like Pi’s are the exception. Not the goal. Through TNVR, we’re working to prevent situations like this altogether, creating healthier outcomes for community cats and fewer animals in need of intensive care.

Together, these stories represent what’s possible when a community comes together... safety and new beginnings.

That’s why the Giving Challenge is such an important moment. During this 24-hour online giving event, every donation made is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100 per donor—making even more lifesaving moments possible.

It only takes one person to make a difference.

One person to take a chance on a dog who’s been overlooked.

One person to care for the free-roaming cats in their neighborhood.

One action that changes everything for an animal in need.

Be the one to help homeless animals.
