Don’t miss the Tidewell Foundation’s 16th Annual Signature Luncheon, taking place Friday, March 7, 2025, at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. Caldwell Trust is the Exclusive Signature Sponsor of this highly anticipated gathering, which offers a day of meaningful connection, inspiring stories, and impactful insights into the power of compassion and care.

This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. BJ Miller, is a globally recognized advocate for holistic well-being and resilience. A survivor of a life-altering accident during his sophomore year at Princeton, Dr. Miller’s journey as a triple amputee shaped his life’s mission: to improve the human experience and inspire others to live more meaningful lives.

As a palliative care physician and co-founder of Mettle Health, Dr. Miller brings a unique perspective to the conversation about mental health, longevity, and living life to the fullest. Mettle Health, an innovative online platform, provides psychosocial support to individuals facing serious illness and their families, as well as caregivers and physicians navigating these challenges.

Dr. Miller’s remarkable story and heartfelt approach have earned him global recognition. His TED Talk, “What Really Matters at the End of Life,” has been viewed more than 15 million times, and he was featured in the Oscar-nominated Netflix documentary End Game. Additionally, his work was highlighted in the Disney+ docuseries Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, where he guided the actor through the complexities of aging and confronting mortality.

During the luncheon, Dr. Miller will share his philosophy on embracing life’s beauty and focusing on what truly matters. His message, which emphasizes perspective shifts, self-acceptance, and the power of the human spirit, promises to leave attendees inspired and empowered to live purpose-driven lives.

In addition to the inspiring program, attendees can participate in a luxury Chance Drawing and purchase stunning centerpieces. Proceeds from the luncheon support the Tidewell Foundation, which funds Tidewell Hospice and Empath Health programs and services, ensuring that patients and their families have access to compassionate care, grief counseling, and therapy, regardless of their financial circumstances.

The impact of the Tidewell Foundation is far-reaching, transforming health and well-being across Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. Programs made possible through the Foundation’s funding include:

  • Grief Support: Programs like the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Program provide comfort and guidance to children and families navigating the loss of a loved one.
  • Expressive Therapies: Music, art, and pet therapy enhance hospice care by offering emotional support and improving quality of life.
  • Veterans Programs: Honoring veterans in hospice with heartfelt pinning ceremonies led by fellow service members.
  • Nurse Residency Program: Accredited training programs ensure excellence in hospice care by developing the next generation of skilled nurses.

In the last year alone, these programs and others touched the lives of more than 10,000 individuals, providing support and comfort during life’s most challenging moments.

Dr. Miller’s personal journey of resilience and his dedication to improving end-of-life care further underscore the importance of the Tidewell Foundation’s mission. His book, The Beginner’s Guide to the End: Practical Advice for Living Life and Facing Death, offers compassionate guidance on embracing life fully, even in the face of its inevitable conclusion.
