Two Prominent Contemporary Artists from New York City Make Their Florida Debut

Hunt Slonem – Double Bunny Pink – 17”x16” – Oil on Wood

Renowned for his unique neo-expressionist style, Hunt Slonem draws inspiration from the natural world and his sixty companion birds. His series of bunnies, butterflies, and tropical birds, along with his monumental sculptures and restorations of long-forgotten old homes, are what have made him most famous. 250 museums worldwide, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and the New Orleans Museum of Art, have Slonem's artwork in their permanent collections.

Drew Marc Gallery is Slonem’s exclusive gallery on Florida’s Gulf Coast showcasing five pieces from his bunny series. Art collectors from around the world recognize his oil paintings which grew to fame in 1977 after his first solo show at the Fischbach Gallery. His work has been showcased internationally hundreds of times, most recently at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. In 2017 and 2018, he was featured by the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Gallery in Bulgaria, and in countless galleries across the United States, Germany and Dubai.

Moving to Newark, New Jersey in July of 2022 Imani Bilál returned to her roots in New York City where she was born. Naturally rebellious, Bilál asserts that opposition gives her creative freedom.  She is among a small community of innovative Black Muslim American women who aren’t afraid to test the limits of their artistic abilities and push the avant-garde. In the field of contemporary art, Bilal is an enormous force, that needs to be on everyone’s radar. Her first solo exhibition in 2020, garnered national attention from Forbes Magazine and Black Art in America skyrocketing her to national success.

Bilál’s ethereal and emotive pieces convey true human emotion and feelings. Her unique process consisting of acrylic, ink, and resin is unlike any contemporary artist today. Drew Marc Gallery is showcasing six of her newest works highlighting her newest process from 2023.
