Presented by Van Wezel June 16, 2023

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is renowned for its exceptional Broadway season. Each year, theatergoers eagerly await the unveiling of the upcoming lineup. This year is the biggest Broadway season to date with hits like Hamilton, Jagged Little Pill, Little Women, Hadestown and more! From dazzling performances to unforgettable storytelling, the Van Wezel Broadway season offers a multitude of reasons to become a subscriber; here are the top seven.

1.     New Shows: The season consists of eight Broadway Blockbusters, seven of which are Van Wezel premieres. A full Broadway subscription secures excellent seats and the lowest ticket prices offered. Smaller packages are also available, and include a ticket discount, but may exclude certain shows.

2.     Broadway Blockbuster: The Sarasota Premiere and showstopper, Hamilton, is anchoring the season. Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. The show will run for two full weeks, playing the Van Wezel from March 26 – April 7, 2023.

3.     Early Access to Single Tickets: Subscribing to a Broadway Season Subscription or World Music Season Subscription guarantees early access to ALL single tickets on sale, including Hamilton! Single tickets for Hamilton will not go on public sale until later in the fall. Becoming a subscriber, even to only a Make-Your-Own Four Show Subscription, will guarantee your early access to Hamilton single tickets.

4.     Tony Award Winners: There are many Tony Award-winning shows in the 2023-2024 season. The eight Broadway shows have a combined 68 Tony Award nominations and a combined 25 Tony Award wins. Hamilton received a record-setting 16 nominations in 13 categories, ultimately winning 11 awards, the second-most for a single production in Tony Award history. Hadestown, also in a Sarasota Premiere, had 14 nominations and won eight awards. Both Hamilton and Hadestown won the Tony Award for Best Musical in their respective seasons.

5.     Beloved Movies Turned Musicals: Pretty Woman: The Musical opens the Van Wezel Broadway lineup on November 27, 2023. Brought to the stage by lead producer Paula Wagner, Pretty Woman: The Musicalfeatures an original score by Grammy® winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance (“Summer of ’69”, “Heaven”), and a book by the movie’s legendary director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J. F. Lawton. Closing the Broadway lineup on April 16, 2024, is Sherk – The Musical. Everyone’s favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle, Sherk – The Musical. This Tony Award®-winning musical brings all the beloved characters from the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film to life.

6.     Bio-Musicals for Great History Lessons: Besides Hamilton’s incredible American History lesson, the Van Wezel Broadway lineup allows guests to journey back through history with The Temptations and Cher. Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations is the electrifying, new smash-hit Broadway musical that follows The Temptations’ extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With their signature dance moves and silky-smooth harmonies, they rose to the top of the charts creating an amazing 42 Top Ten Hits with 14 reaching number one. The Cher Show is 35 smash hits, six decades of stardom, two rock-star husbands, a Grammy®, an Oscar®, an Emmy®, and enough Tony Award-winning Bob Mackie gowns to cause a sequin shortage in New York City, all in one unabashedly fabulous new musical that will have audiences dancing in the aisles!

7.     Subscriber Specials: In addition to a Broadway Series Subscription or a World Music Subscription, subscribers can access special add-on shows. Subscriber Specials include the holiday crowd favorite Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert, the comedy dog spectacular Mutts Gone Nuts, the extraordinary quartet The Four Phantoms in Concert, the divine satire that is Robert Dubac’s Stand Up Jesus and the annual musical sellout Neil Berg’s 114 Years of Broadway.
