The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall always presents exceptional Broadway productions, and the upcoming 2023-2024 subscription series continues this tradition of excellence. This season, audiences can expect a diverse range of shows that will transport them to different eras, locations, and emotions.

The 2023-2024 Broadway Series includes seven Van Wezel Premieres, starting with the beloved movie turned musical, Pretty Woman: The Musical (November 27-28), which features the international hit song by Roy Orbison and Bill Dee, “Oh, Pretty Woman,” along with an original score. The Cher Show (January 10-12), also a Sarasota Premiere, is 35 smash hits, six decades of stardom, two rock-star husbands, a Grammy®, an Oscar®, an Emmy®, and enough Tony Award-winning Bob Mackie gowns to cause a sequin shortage in New York City, all in one unabashedly fabulous new musical that will have audiences dancing in the aisles!

In another Sarasota Premiere, Hadestown (January 30 – February 4), the winner of eight Tony Awards® and a Grammy^® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, is a love story for today...and always. Intertwining two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.

Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations (February 21-25), another Sarasota Premiere, is the electrifying, smash-hit Broadway musical that follows The Temptations’ extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Broadway series also includes the fearless new musical based on Alanis Morissette’s world-changing music, Jagged Little Pill (February 27-28), also a Sarasota Premiere, and the critically acclaimed, timeless story of Little Women (March 7-8), and hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar®-winning, smash hit, DreamWorks animated film Shrek – The Musical (April 16-17).

Anchoring the season is the Sarasota Premiere of Hamilton (March 26-April 7). Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamiltonhas taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre.
