Reef Innovations: Larry Beggs
RESTORED.
Reef and marine habitat restoration.
A fifth generation Floridian raised in the world of livestock and agriculture but couldn’t stay out of the water, Larry Beggs is known as the cowboy who got wet. A passion for diving ultimately led to his life’s mission in marine restoration. Seeing the deterioration of marine life on subsequent dive trips, Reef Innovations was born in 1995 to help change it. He helped design a marine-grade concrete reef ball, or “seed,” to generate thriving habitats for sea life. His company is now the largest reef ball contractor and leading source of molds and materials worldwide, with over 700,000 balls currently in the water. His work has aligned him with conservation groups, government agencies, educational institutions, researchers and most recently with Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Reef. Larry also partners with the Reef Ball Foundation and Eternal Reefs, where a loved one’s ashes can be integrated into a reef ball cultivating life for future generations.
