• Prior to the pandemic, 37% of households in Sarasota County and 60% of households in DeSoto County struggled to afford their basic needs; the pandemic significantly increased those numbers
• Poor nutrition in childhood can affect cognition, cause speech, motor and social development delays and behavioral issues, negatively impact school performance, and result in chronic health issues
• In 2020, of the 22.4 million pounds of food distributed to children, families, seniors and veterans, 8.1 million was fresh produce
• All Faiths is focused on the quality and nutrient value of food distributed: 70-80% of food purchased for donation is high-nutrition

Hunger is a Health Issue.

Founded in 1989, All Faiths Food Bank is the only food bank and the largest hunger relief organization in our region. All Faiths has been nationally recognized for its focus on high quality food, efficiency and the equitable distribution of millions of meals annually.

Our healthy food programs, mobile farm markets and nutrition education are helping to improve individual and community health. Last year, we distributed over 22 million pounds of food through a network of 200 agency and program partners. Our children’s programs include the annual distribution of over 213,000 BackPacks full of nutritious food for kids to take home over the weekend and when school is not in session. And our Campaign Against Summer Hunger has fed more than 200,000 kids and raised over $12 since its inception in 2014.

Our “hunger to health” programs include partnerships with Sarasota Memorial Hospital and pediatric clinics to screen newborns and young children, and the DeSoto Health Clinic to screen both adults and children for hunger. All Faiths also operates innovative programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency through a variety of social services and referrals to other providers.
