Sophrosyne: Andrea Dasha Reich Solo Exhibition

Known as “Dasha,” renowned local artist Andrea Dasaha Reich has spent her career exploring the depth and intimacy of the abstract world we inhabit. 530 Burns Gallery will present her newest body of contemporary abstract resin paintings in the upcoming exhibition, “ Sophrosyne.” The show explores “moderation” for the artist while maintaining her impactful use of color. The meet-the-artist opening reception will be held Friday, February 28th from 6 to 9PM at 530 Burns Gallery.

If you have been involved in Sarasota’s art sphere, you will recognize Dasha’s distinctive style, which she has developed over the past 25 years. The work is  “characterized by layers of resin in the fullest spectrum of color.” Abstract forms pop off the panel or canvas including florals, squiggles, dashes, petals, pinwheels and everything in between. Now, there is a strong evolution in Dasha’s work. In this exhibition, Dasha presents her newest body of paintings that she calls “Sophrosyne.” 

Dasha reflects on this new series:

Stepping into a new phase of art, this current body of work, was not an easy task. The colors I use in my artworks are my signature, part of my DNA and cannot be manipulated­­--It was very difficult to transition from my previous style into this new one, especially after 25 years of creation and perfection. To me, these new pieces are as if I put all of my previous works into a blender and Sophrosyne was born. Sophrosyne was an ancient Greek concept of an ideal of excellence of character and soundness of mind, which when combined in one well-balanced individual leads to other qualities, such as temperance, moderation, prudence, purity, decorum and self-control.

Furthermore through this work,  Dasha explores art’s effect on the brain. In a study through Ashford University, it was concluded that “art is a great way to flex your brain while improving your quality of life.” Dasha feels, as do many art enthusiasts, that art brings about joy while making the wheels of the mind turn.
