We’re Going on a Road Trip! Bus Tour to Florida Southern College

Florida Southern College in Lakeland has the world’s largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. Get on the bus for an amazing in-depth tour of the 12-building campus by expert docents. Plus: a Usonian house, a recent construction, following the original FLW design for faculty housing. After the tour, there will be a buffet lunch at the historic Terrace Hotel, returning to the Center in late afternoon.

The Joyful Rejuvenation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fawcett House

A lecture by Carrie Cox, owner of the Randall Fawcett house in CA.

A grand example of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian design, the Randall Fawcett house won the Wright Spirit Award in October ’19 from the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, which is the highest accolade you can get in the Wright world. The lecture will include “before and after” shots of the restoration, original interior design plans for the house, photos showing how the Fawcett family actually furnished it, and current photos after Carrie Cox had the original-design furniture made for the house today.

Cranbrook: Architecture, Education and Design 1925 – 1950

A lecture by Kevin Adkisson, Associate Curator of Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research

The lecture will examine Cranbrook’s contributions to art, architecture and design, focusing on the remarkable Saarinen family and their designs for the Cranbrook community. Kevin Adkisson will also discuss alumni of the Academy of Art, including Florence Knoll, Charles and Ray Eames, Harry Bertoia, Harry Weese and others. The lecture will highlight frequent Cranbrook visitor Frank Lloyd Wright and the 1950 Usonian style Smith House that was given to Cranbrook in 2017.
