Barancik Foundation Awards More Than $8.1 Million in Grants

Plus, a Gulf Coast Community Foundation grant will help fund a new Senior Friendship Centers program for older LGBTQ+ adults, and more.

A new round of Barancik Foundation grants includes in investments in projects like the construction of a new Boys & Girls Club in Newtown.

The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation last week approved $8,154,945 in grants to nonprofits in Sarasota and the surrounding region, including investments in the construction of a new Boys & Girls Club in Newtown, improved access to prenatal care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies, and affordable housing for teachers in DeSoto County. The funding brings Barancik Foundation’s grant-making for the year to more than $23 million.

Senior Friendship Centers has received a $25,000 grant from Gulf Coast Community Foundation to help fund critical initiatives, including strategic planning, its 2026 Caregivers Forum, and Rainbow Connections, a new program for older LGBTQ+ adults.

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has granted $30,000 to Forty Carrots to replace its fence after it was damaged by last year's hurricanes.

Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota has created a new music endowment fund through a gift of $500,000 from late parishioner Elizabeth “Liz” Lindsay.

State College of Florida has received $38,120 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The funding will help sustain SCF's Ira and Patricia Strauss Reading Program.
